The forties seemed like an advanced stage to me when I was in my twenties. She's not related to grandmothers, but she's definitely not young. I've always thought that forty-year-olds should feel a little sad about reaching this stage of their lives. I didn't know that most of them felt the same way I had inside my twenties, but better, wiser, and more confident. I had no way of knowing that most of them wouldn't prefer to go back to their twenties again, even if I paid them money, and that they actually loved being in their forties. I never knew how beautiful and peaceful aging could be. You simply stop caring about unimportant things. Most things are not very important.
